US pop singer Britney Spears opened Tuesday on Instagram about how her life had changed after being freed from her 13-year conservatorship last week.

On Friday, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny released the pop star from the conservatorship set up by her father, Jamie Spears, who has been controlling her affairs since 2008.

The conservatorship was set up following concerns about the singer's mental health and gave her father power over her finances and career decisions as well as major personal matters such as her visits with her teenage sons and whether she can get remarried.

Britney has been trying to end her conservatorship for more than a year in order to regain her independence and have a say in her medical care.

As part of the ruling, Judge Penny said an accountant who served as a temporary conservator should retain some powers to settle ongoing financial issues.

In a heartfelt Instagram video, the pop star noted that she has been in the conservatorship for 13 years.

"It is a really long time to be in a situation you don't want to be in. I'm just grateful honestly for each day and being able to have the keys to my car and being able to be independent and feel like a woman and owning an ATM card, seeing cash for the first time, being able to buy candles, " Britney pointed out.

She also hinted that she will do an interview with Oprah Winfrey and thanked her fans who saved her life.

"It is the little things for us women, but it makes a huge difference," the pop star added.

The 39-year-old noted that she was here to be a victim but rather an advocate for people with real disabilities and real illnesses.

"I'm a very strong woman, so I can only imagine what the system has done to those people. Hopefully, my story will make an impact and make some changes in the corrupt system." she continued.

Britney also thanked the #FreeBritney movement, telling them: "You guys rock. Honestly, my voice was muted and threatened for so long and I wasn't able to speak up or say anything and because of you I honestly think you guys saved my life in a way - 100%."
