Authorities in Mali have confirmed the release of an elderly Colombian Franciscan nun called Gloria, who had been kidnapped by jihadists in Mali for more than four years, according to French authorities.
According to a tweet on Sunday released by the Mali officials, the nun said: "I thank the Malian authorities, the president, all the Malian authorities, for all the efforts you've made to liberate me, may God bless you, may God bless Mali."
Later, the Mali Television released a video showing her with Mali's interim president Colonel Assimi Goita and the archbishop of Bamako Jean Zerbo.
Gloria said, wearing a yellow robe and beaming throughout a news conference: "I am very happy, I stayed healthy for five years, thank God."
On its part, the presidency said: "Her liberation had been the fruit of "four years and eight months of the combined effort of several intelligence services"
It's worth mentioning that sister Gloria, 59, was kidnapped near Koutiala city, 400 kilometers (250 miles) east of the capital Bamako. The Colombian sister had worked as a missionary for six years in the parish of Karangasso with three other nuns.
