According to French media, the US military troops provide logistical and intelligence support to French forces in the Sahel region.

The French forces had dealt with MIT militants in coordination “with the Malian and US militaries and then killed the head of the extremist weaponed Modi, the self-proclaimed Amir of Muslims of Burkina Faso in a shootout at a village, near the border with Burkina Faso, on Friday afternoon, French media reported.

In a statement, Barkhane said: “Throughout the 2000s, Omaru Mobo Modi was an important leader of Ansar al-Islam, directly related to Jaafar Deko, the emir of the group, and worked in the area RN16 (National Road 16) between Gosi and Gao; he supervised in particularly the planting of improvised explosive devices, “the favorite weapon of the militants.

The statement also revealed that this” respected commander “could” lead a hundred men to carry out massive attacks on the spot “.

Commenting on this news, French terrorism analysts said the AI which is cited as a major jihadist group specializing in the planting of artisanal mines in Sahara Desert territory was unlikely to survive its leader’s death, although he suspected its members who are on the run would continue to fight security forces.

It's worth mentioning that the terrorist leader was behind the killing of many French aid workers last two years and was also accused of having contacts with ISIS.
