US President Joe Biden decided to extend the ban on receiving ships flying the Russian flag or linked to Russia in US ports for a year, according to a document distributed by the White House.

The US authorities point out that “the policy and actions of the Russian authorities” and their conduct of the special military operation in Ukraine constitute an emergency situation due to “a violation or threat of violation of the international relations of the United States.”

Biden explained: “I am extending for one year the state of emergency with respect to Russia and emergency authorizations related to regulating the presence and movement of ships linked to Russia in the ports of the United States,” according to what the Russian TASS agency reported.

This measure comes as part of the latest series of sanctions and export restrictions imposed by the United States and its partners and allies in response to the continuing Russian war in Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022.
