Chinese local authorities announced on Wednesday that five people were reported missing after heavy rains hit Zhaotong City, a mountainous city in southwestern Yunnan Province.
The Chinese news agency Xinhua reported that large parts of Zhaotong City and surrounding areas have been experiencing continuous heavy rainfall since Tuesday morning, causing extensive damage to more than one county under the city's administration.
According to a preliminary report, the rainwater swept away two houses in Luobu Township, Weixin County, leaving five people missing.
More than 7,000 people have been evacuated to safe areas.
