Egyptian MP and TV anchor Mostafa Bakry said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed concern about the expanding capabilities of the Egyptian Armed Forces, citing remarks reportedly made during a closed session of the Knesset that were later leaked to journalists.

Speaking on his program on Sada El-Balad TV, Bakry said Netanyahu raised the issue of Egypt’s military development in discussions, describing it as a matter of strategic attention for Israel.

According to Bakry, Netanyahu told the U.S. Secretary of State that Egypt had constructed new runways for fighter jets and developed underground facilities allegedly suited for missile storage.

Bakry added that some Israeli analysts warned of the possibility of a future “renewed front,” arguing that Egypt is expanding its military capabilities at an unprecedented pace, including conducting intensive military exercises they claim could raise questions regarding the peace agreement.

He stressed, however, that the Egyptian Armed Forces are focused exclusively on safeguarding national security.

“The Egyptian army’s mission is to protect and defend, not to initiate aggression,” Bakry said, adding that any attack on Egypt’s borders would be met with decisive response.

The remarks come amid broader regional tensions and increased scrutiny of military developments across the Middle East.
