BA to Discuss History, Importance of "Tuna Elgebel" Area

The BA Antiquities Museum, in collaboration with the Cultural Outreach Sector, will organizes a lecture entitled "Tuna Elgebel: the Past, the Present, and the Future - Recent Excavations" on Sunday, 22 September 2019, at 1:00 pm, in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Main Building, Antiquities Museum, Afterlife Section.

The lecture will be delivered by Dr.Ahmed Badran, Faculty of Archaeology, Cairo University.

The lecture will discuss the history of the Tuna Elgebel area, its importance as a cemetery in Minya and Central Egypt, its most important archaeological and tourist attractions in this region, such as the tomb of Petosiris, the tomb of Isadora, the Roman waterwheel, the catacombs of birds and sacred animals, the tomb of the priests of the god Thoth, and the Boundary Stelae of Akhenaten.

The lecture will also shed light on the excavations carried out in Tuna Elgebel from 1930 to 1952 by Dr. Sami Gabra, Professor at Cairo University, in addition to the great archaeological discovery carried out by Cairo University in the region in 2017.
