On Thursday, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) celebrated with receiving the sacred Hodge that was gifted by Lord Yashar Hassan Helmy.

Several officials attended the celebration such as Alexandria Governor Mohamed El Sherif, and Consul General of Saudi Arabia in Alexandria Youssef bin Saleh Al-Qahra alongside a number of representatives from Al-Azhar, and the Coptic Church.

Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Dr. Mostafa El Feki expressed his sincere happiness with receiving the honorable Hodge, adding that Helmy previously donated with the Kiswah of the Ka’abah that attracted the visitors.

In the same context, El Feki asserted the value of this gift as the journey of Mahmal used to depart from Egypt to the holy lands of Saudi Arabia in folk and popular celebrations. In addition, he highlighted that this denotation asserted the cultural importance of the BA.

He also greeted and thanked Helmy for his contributions to preserving the heritage of Egypt.

On his side, the Lord explained the value of this Hodge as it dated back to Bayezid I and it contained 80,000 gold pieces in addition to silk clothes, and costumes to be distributed through Hajj as a representation of brotherhood, and friendship between various peoples.
