Al-Mawlid Al Nabawi al-Sharif

Al-Mawlid Al Nabawi al-Sharif is the observance of the birthday of Islamic prophet Mohammad which is commemorated in Rabi’ al-awwal, the third month in the Islamic calendar.

It falls this year on November 9. The Prophet’s birthday is a remarkable holiday widely celebrated by Egyptians and the whole Islamic world.

Establishing street markets to sell candy and Arouset El-Moulid (sugar bride) are considered one of the most important aspects of the celebration.

Family gatherings and religious celebrations in mosques are also part of the holiday.

The celebration of the holiday in Egypt dates back to the Fatimid era (the 10th to 12th century AD), when moulids, or the birthdays of religious figures, were marked with public festivals and military processions.

Prophet Muhammad was born in Mecca, Saudi Arabia in the year 570 AD. Muslims around the world celebrate Mawlid (Muhammad's birth) in Rabi’ al-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar.

It is worth mentioning that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi congratulated Egyptians and the whole Arab world on the same occasion, praising the conduct and traits of the great Prophet.

Addressing “Al Mawlid Al Nabawi” ceremony organized by Awqaf ministry, Sisi said that this sacred memory drives us to reflect on the essence and message of the Holy Prophet.
