US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said that Washington will continue to support Ukraine as long as it takes, explaining that Western military support for Kiev is the best way to confront the Russian attack.

This came after Russian Ministry of Defense announced, in a report, the destruction of US-made howitzers and artillery systems, in addition to the shooting down of a Ukrainian Mi-8 helicopter.

US Deputy Secretary of Defense Colin Kahl said that the conflict in Ukraine may continue for the next two to three years.

"We do not know how the conflict will evolve. It may end after six months, or after two or three years," the deputy minister added during the hearing in the US Congress, which was reported by Russia Today.

Kahl added that he hoped Congress would continue to support aid funding for Ukraine, even given current assessments of the potential conflict period.

It is noteworthy that the United States of America (USA) has provided Ukraine with about $50 billion in aid since the launch of the Russian military operation in February 2022, including more than $25 billion in military aid.
