The Association of Banks in Lebanon (ABL) recommended the closure of banks on Thursday, in conjunction with calls to demonstrate tomorrow, in what is called the “Day of Rage” in various parts of Lebanon.

The association confirmed that the decision comes in order to preserve the safety of banking sector employees, and given the possibility of their access to their workplaces being hampered due to the expected strike by unions and federations of transport tomorrow.

The Minister of Education and Higher Education in Lebanon, Abbas Al-Halabi had announced the closure of schools and universities tomorrow, while the Lebanese Minister of Interior Bassam Mawlawi directed the General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces to take security measures in conjunction with the so-called Day of Rage, which was launched by various unions.

The General Labor Union and a number of labor unions, especially road transport workers had called for demonstrations to protest against the deteriorating economic and living conditions and to demand the implementation of agreements concluded between labor unions and the government in addition to the implementation of decisions on social grants after the liberation of the fuel price and the collapse of the local currency against the US dollar.
