Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit on Friday welcomed the announcement of a Palestinian technocratic committee tasked with governing the Gaza Strip.
The committee, led by Dr. Ali Shaath, is viewed as a pivotal step toward implementing the second phase of the Trump peace plan. In a statement released by his spokesperson, Jamal Roshdy, Aboul Gheit expressed appreciation for the mediation efforts of Egypt, Qatar, and other regional partners.
The Secretary-General urged the international community, specifically the United States, to facilitate the removal of obstacles to peace and reconstruction in Gaza. He emphasized the need to counter "Israeli procrastination" regarding Phase 2 requirements, specifically calling for a full military withdrawal and the guaranteed, uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid into the enclave.
Aboul Gheit concluded by wishing the committee success in serving the Palestinian people during these "difficult circumstances."
