Arab League Receives King of Spain, lauds Madrid's Principled Position on Palestinian Cause

Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received His Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain today at the General Secretariat headquarters in Cairo, as part of an official visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The discussions focused primarily on the situation in the Gaza Strip, Spain’s principled and courageous positions on the Palestinian cause, the imperative of implementing the two-state solution, and the urgent need to halt the war of extermination being waged by the occupation forces against Gaza.

Gamal Roshdy, the Secretary-General’s official spokesperson, stated that Mr. Aboul Gheit expressed the League’s deep appreciation for Spain’s steadfast humanitarian and moral stance in supporting the Palestinian cause and defending the two-state solution. 

He commended Madrid’s continuous efforts to stop the aggression against Gaza, as well as its provision of urgent humanitarian assistance to Palestinian civilians through an increased contribution to the UNRWA budget.

For his part, His Majesty the King of Spain reiterated his country’s commitment to humanitarian principles and human rights, stressing the importance of ending the suffering of civilians in Gaza, ensuring unhindered access for humanitarian aid, and supporting international efforts to achieve a ceasefire.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Secretary-General reaffirmed that the League will continue to work towards implementing the two-state solution, establishing a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, and ending the war of extermination, the horrors of which have surpassed all description.
