Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit on Monday praised China’s role in advancing cultural and strategic cooperation as he addressed the 11th Arab-Chinese Dialogue of Civilizations Conference.
Aboul Gheit said the forum has grown from a cultural platform into a key pillar of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two sides. He highlighted the historic Silk Road as a symbol of exchange that shaped both civilizations and enriched global heritage.
He urged replacing “the language of conflict” with collaboration amid global challenges ranging from climate change to technological disruption. The Secretary-General warned that social media is amplifying polarization and fueling hate speech, stressing the need for institutions to counter extremist narratives.
Aboul Gheit welcomed China’s Global Civilization Initiative and President Xi Jinping’s Global Governance Initiative, saying both align with concerns of the Global South and offer pathways to fairer multilateral cooperation.
He called for expanding youth exchange programs and reaffirmed the Arab League’s commitment ahead of the 2026 China-Arab Summit.
