Antiquties Min. Inspects NMEC in Fustat

Minister of Antiquities Khaled El Anani inspected on Monday the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in 'Fustat' district to follow the latest developments in the central exhibition and royal mummies’ halls.

The tour included the central exhibition hall, which showcases antiques from all Egyptian eras. Royal mummies’ hall exhibits 22 royal mummies and 17 royal coffins. These monuments will be transported in a procession during the next few months from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square.

"The museum includes a variety of archaeological artifacts that reflect the cultural concept in Egypt," Dr. Mahmoud Mabrouk, the exhibition's designer said.

 

"These antiques include the oldest artifact dating back to more than 55,000 years, which is the oldest skeleton of a young Egyptian uncovered in Qena Governorate," Mabrouk added.

Complex of Religions

"The 135,000-square-meter National Museum of Egyptian Civilization lies close to the Complex of Religions, overlooks 'Ein El-Sira' Lake," said Hisham Samir Ibrahim, Assistant Minister of Antiquities for Engineering Affairs.

"The first phase of the museum includes reception, archaeological stores, administrative area, restoration labs, and garages," Ibrahim added.

He also noted that the second phase, 95 percent completed, all the electro-mechanical and interior works of the reception, the glass pyramid, renovation of archaeological stores, and restoration labs, in addition to fire fighting techniques finished.

The third phase, 96 percent completed, includes the 2570-square-meter central exhibition hall, and the 2810 square-meter royal mummies hall have almost finished.
