Antiquities, Housing Minister Discuss Development of GEM

Minister of Antiquities Khaled El-Anani and Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Assem Al-Gazzar held a meeting on Monday to discuss available investment opportunities in the areas surrounding the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization NMEC and the Grand Egyptian Museum GEM.

The meeting comes in light of the ongoing development projects, which contribute in creating a great urban shift in those areas.

Cairo governor Major General Khaled Abdel-Aal and a number of investors and real-estate developers attended the meeting.

The participants toured the National Museum of Civilization to inspect its exhibition halls, in addition to the activities and services area, which includes lecture halls, conferences, theater, cafeterias and bazaars overlooking Ain El-Sira Lake.

During the meeting, Dr. Mohamed El Khatib, a consultant of the development projects at GEM surrounding areas, reviewed several plans aim at upgrading and developing the entire historic area in Cairo, modernizing the road network surrounding the museum, and developing the facades of non-monumental buildings.

He also presented plans for the development of Al-Fustat and Ain El-Sira Lake areas and establishing a Corniche, tourist walkway, restaurants, cafeterias and others to lure many tourists to them.

Major General Atef Moftah, General Supervisor of the Great Egyptian Museum Project and its surrounding area, reviewed the current projects for the development of the museum’s surrounding areas.

These projects included raising the efficiency of the roads and bridges network and increasing the capacity of hotels there.

On her part, Eman Zidan, a key-figure at the Antiquities Ministry presented a number of investment opportunities to raise the efficiency of those archaeological areas and provide high-level services there in order to make them more attractive to tourists.
