Angelina Jolie, actress and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, called for all refugees and displaced persons in the world to be treated equally.

"A million refugees have now fled Ukraine," Jolie said in a post on her Instagram account.

"Before the first Ukrainian refugees crossed the border, there were more than 82 million people forced to leave their homes globally, the highest number on record," she added.

She pointed out that among them were "more than 6 million Syrians, the largest number of refugees in the world, who have been displaced for more than a decade, and more than a million Rohingyas from Myanmar who have been forcibly displaced."

"About 48 million people have been forced to leave their homes due to conflict and violence, such as those who live as internally displaced persons in their countries in Yemen, Somalia, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, and many other places."

She concluded: "All refugees and displaced persons deserve equal treatment and rights."
