Carlo Ancelotti has insisted he will remain in charge of Brazil despite the Seleção's disappointing exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, vowing to use the setback as motivation to build a stronger team for the future.
Brazil's hopes of winning a record-extending sixth World Cup title came to an end after a 2-1 defeat to Norway in the Round of 16, extending the nation's wait for another world crown to at least 28 years.
Speaking after the match, Ancelotti dismissed speculation over his future, describing the elimination as the beginning of a new chapter rather than the end of his project with the five-time world champions.
"I don't think this is the end. I think this is the start of a new cycle," Ancelotti said.
"Brazil could have competed until the end of this World Cup, even considering what happened today. We will keep working hard for the national team, continue improving, and find new ideas. We will use this disappointment as fuel going forward."
The Italian coach, who took charge of Brazil last year and remains under contract until after the 2030 World Cup, also defended his players following the early exit.
"It is a very disappointing result and all of us are saddened, but this was a great group. I have to thank my players because they worked really hard," he said.
"I don't think we deserved to lose, but we have to accept it. That's football. Sometimes you have to deal with the sadness and bitterness of defeat."
Brazil entered the tournament under pressure after a difficult qualifying campaign but recovered to progress through the group stage unbeaten before edging past Japan in the Round of 32 with a dramatic stoppage-time winner.
However, Erling Haaland's clinical brace ended Brazil's World Cup campaign, while Neymar's late penalty only reduced the deficit in what proved to be the legendary forward's final appearance for the national team after announcing his international retirement.
Despite the disappointment, Ancelotti remains confident Brazil has the foundations to return to the top of world football and is determined to guide the team into a new era rather than walk away after his first major setback as head coach.
