Liverpool's goalkeeper Alisson Becker would not be among the Reds' squad for the upcoming clash against Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup.

Liverpool announced on Saturday that Alisson would miss Wednesday’s game after he suffered a calf injury against Norwich City in the opening match of the Premier League. They will play against Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday in Istanbul, Turkey at 21:00 CLT.

He was replaced by new signing Adrian after 38 minutes of the Reds’ 4-1 victory over the Canaries. Liverpool's head coach Jürgen Klopp expressed his sorrow over Alisson's injury.

"There is actually nothing bad to say about the game apart from Ali’s injury. That is, of course, not good for us," Klopp said during his post-match press conference.

The Reds made an ideal start to the 2019-20 season by demolishing newly-promoted Norwich City at Anfield 4-1 on Friday night.

Norwich’s defender Grant Hanley’s own goal put the Reds ahead after forward Divock Origi fired in a fairly innocuous low cross that Hanley seemed certain to clear, but he got himself in a muddle and shanked it back into his own net from six yards. Salah then doubled the scoring after he unleashed a right-foot shot from six yards.

Van Dijk cemented his side’s lead when he planted a downward header into the net from seven yards, scoring the third goal. Origi nodded the fourth after he flicked a header into Norwich’s net from 12 yards.

Pukki restored some dignity for Norwich after he produced a perfect finish in the 64th minute, scoring the first goal for his side.

The Reds will resume their adventure in the Premier League against Southampton on Saturday, August 17.

It is worth mentioning that the Reds claimed the UEFA Champions League title after defeating Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in June.
