Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp announced that keeper Alisson Becker would not be among the Reds’ squad for the next few weeks due to his calf injury.

The Reds’ First-choice keeper suffered a calf injury against Norwich City in the opening match of the Premier League and was replaced by summer signing Adrian. He would miss Wednesday’s game against Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup.

"I saw already like 'six weeks' and stuff like this, but Ali was not a lot injured in his career so I would like to wait a little bit to see how he develops in that process now, but he is not in for the next few weeks," Klopp said.

The Brazil international, 26, made an impressive performance with the Reds in his debut season as he led his team to claim the Champions League and finish second in the Premier League.

"It's not too cool. It’s a calf injury which takes Alisson out for a while. I don't want to make now an exact prognosis on when he will be back - it takes a couple of weeks for sure, and we have to see,” Klopp added.

Liverpool are set to sign veteran keeper Andy Lonergan on a free transfer after Alisson’s injury.

Lonergan became an option for the Reds as the third-choice Caoimhin Kelleher is still suffering a wrist injury. The 35-year- old is free to join any club on a free transfer as he left Middlesbrough this summer.

It is worth mentioning that the Reds made an ideal start to the 2019-20 season by demolishing newly-promoted Norwich City at Anfield 4-1 on Friday night.

Norwich’s defender Grant Hanley’s own goal put the Reds ahead before the iconic Egyptian star Mohamed Salah doubled the scoring after he unleashed a right-foot shot from six yards.

Van Dijk cemented his side’s lead when he planted a downward header into the net from seven yards, scoring the third goal. Origi nodded the fourth after he flicked a header into Norwich’s net from 12 yards.

Pukki restored some dignity for Norwich after he produced a perfect finish in the 64th minute, scoring the first goal for his side.

Liverpool will resume their adventure in the Premier League against Southampton on Saturday, August 17.
