On Sunday, Al Azhar Al Sharif condemned the scenes depicted at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games, which sparked widespread global outrage. The scenes offensively portrayed Jesus Christ, disrespecting His noble character and the esteemed status of prophethood recklessly and disrespectfully disregarding the feelings of believers and the high moral values of humanity.
Al-Azhar reiterated its consistent rejection of any attempts to disrespect any prophet of God. Prophets and messengers are considered the elite of God's creation, chosen and honored to carry the message of goodness to the world. Al-Azhar, along with nearly two billion Muslims, believes that Jesus is a messenger of God, as stated in the Quran.
He is also considered one of the resolute prophets. Muslims believe that insulting Jesus or any other prophet is a disgrace to those who commit and accept such heinous acts.
Al-Azhar warned the world about the dangers of exploiting global events to normalize disrespect towards religion and promote destructive societal issues such as homosexuality and gender transformation. It calls for unity in confronting this deviant trend that aims to exclude religion, deify base sexual desires, spread health and moral diseases, and impose an animalistic lifestyle that contradicts natural human instincts. This trend aggressively seeks to normalize and enforce its values on societies by any means necessary.
