A symposium honoring director Kamla Abu Zekry was held on Thursday at the Nafoura Theater in the Opera in line with the 44th Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF).

The panel discussion was organized by critic Tariq El-Shennawy. This came after Abu Zekry was granted the Faten Hamama Excellence Award.

A number of artists were keen to attend the symposium, including Hussein Fahmy, President of the CIFF, Elham Shaheen, producer Mohamed El-Adl, Solaf Fawakherji, Lekaa Elkhamissi, Hajar Al-Sharnoubi, Tamer Habib, Rakeen Saad, Amir Al-Masry, Youssef Othman, Fatima Nasser, Mahmoud Al-Laithi, Hazem Ihab, Nour Qadri, and Tony Maher.

Abu Zekry recalled her meeting with director Atef El-Tayeb, noting that she learned the feeling of the actor from him during her training in the movie “Demaa Ala ElAsflt” with Nour El Sharif. She added that El-Tayeb stood along with the actor/actress and gives them positive impulses to believe in the events.

Furthermore, Abu Zekry expressed her desire to prepare for work that revolves around men, especially since their problems and crises are no less important than women's.

The female director added that she does not like to be confined to the term "women's cinema" because she always presents a variety of works, adding that the writer Sanalla Ibrahim and Bahaa Taher, called her after the success of “Zat” and “Wahat Al-Ghoroub”.

Abu Zekry said cinematographer Nancy Abdel Fattah shared her successful journey, as well as musician Tamer Karawan, whom she always disagrees with during the preparations for their work together, but in the end, the success is shared between them.

On her part, Elham Shaheen talked about her cooperation with Abu Zekry, asserting that she is a distinguished director and a model for creativity in her works. The two teamed up together in cinema with films like “One-Zero” and “Yoam Lel Settat,” in addition to the TV series “Be Tolooa Al Rouh.”
