Mohamed Aboul Enein, Deputy Speaker of Egypt’s House of Representatives and President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PA-UfM), has strongly defended Egypt’s role in supporting the Palestinian cause, emphasizing that no country has contributed more to the people of Gaza.

Speaking at the assembly’s bureau meeting in Sharm El-Sheikh (September 11–14), Aboul Enein highlighted that 70 percent of all humanitarian aid delivered to Gaza came from Egypt. He also noted that Egypt has received and treated around 13,500 Palestinians from Gaza in its hospitals, along with their companions.

He rejected what he described as false claims and disinformation aimed at undermining Egypt’s role. “We have recently started hearing distorted information, such as claims that Egypt has closed its border crossings. Egypt has never closed any of its crossings at any time. There are other routes where aid could also enter Gaza,” he stressed.

Aboul Enein also reminded the assembly that the Palestinian cause is not about Hamas, but fundamentally about ending the Israeli occupation and restoring the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
