Mohamed Aboul Enein, Deputy Speaker of the Egyptian Parliament and President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PA-UfM), delivered a powerful message during the assembly’s bureau meeting in Sharm El-Sheikh (September 11–14). He reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering stance on the Palestinian cause and issued a stark warning against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s policies, which he described as reckless and dangerous.
Aboul Enein emphasized that Egypt stands firmly by the two-state solution as the only viable path to ending the Arab-Israeli conflict. He accused Netanyahu of deliberately obstructing this path through his settlement expansion and defiance of international consensus. “He talks about a so-called ‘New Middle East’ while his government pursues land grabs in Gaza and elsewhere. By what right are Palestinians driven from their own land?” Aboul Enein asked.
The Egyptian parliamentarian underscored that attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians or liquidate their cause by resettling them in other countries represent a “red line” that Egypt will never accept. “There will be no displacement, no liquidation, and no Palestinian state on any land other than Palestine itself,” he declared, making clear Egypt’s consistent policy.
In a strongly worded appeal, Aboul Enein warned the international community of the dangers of ignoring regional anger: “I am Egyptian, and I know the depth of my people’s anger—and I know how much their president values that as well. Beware the overwhelming popular fury.”
He also criticized Israel for failing to respect mediation efforts, even from countries like Qatar, which continues to push for a ceasefire and peaceful solutions, yet faced Israeli attacks despite its role as mediator.
