A fire broke out aboard a Busan Air passenger plane at South Korea's Gimhae International Airport in Busan on Tuesday evening, leaving seven people injured during the emergency evacuation.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the fire ignited in the tail section of an Airbus A321-200 aircraft operated by Busan Air just before its scheduled departure for Hong Kong.
The incident prompted an immediate evacuation of all 169 passengers, six crew members, and a maintenance worker via emergency slides. Firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze just before midnight.
Authorities reported that seven passengers sustained minor injuries while evacuating and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Among the 169 passengers on board, 22 were foreign nationals, including 18 Chinese, two Americans, a British citizen, and a Filipino.
Following the incident, South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport launched an investigation, dispatching a team of seven officials to determine the cause of the fire.
The aircraft had been in service for over 17 years, and according to the ministry’s aviation technical information system, planes operating for more than 20 years must undergo stricter safety inspections.
