Cairo authorities announced partial closures and temporary traffic diversions on the vital 6th of October Bridge, as part of a broader infrastructure upgrade aimed at improving traffic flow across the capital.

The Cairo Traffic Department confirmed that construction work will begin immediately, with phased closures affecting key segments of the bridge over the coming days.

Officials said the most significant disruption will occur between the Mamdouh Salem exit and the Al-Orouba ramp (Sector 7), where alternating full closures will be implemented in both directions.

Authorities outlined a two-phase plan involving alternating full closures on sections of the 6th of October Bridge, as part of ongoing upgrade works aimed at improving traffic flow across the capital.

According to a statement by the General Authority for Roads and Bridges, the closures will be implemented overnight on selected dates, with designated alternative routes to minimize disruption.

Phase One (Nasr City / Ramses Direction): A full closure will be implemented from the Mamdouh Salem exit to the Al-Orouba ramp on Friday and Saturday, April 24–25, with work taking place daily from 12:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. During this period, vehicles coming from Ramses Extension and El-Nasr Road will be diverted to take the Mamdouh Salem exit and continue via Ramses Extension Street.

Phase Two (Ramses to Nasr City Direction): A full closure will be in effect from the Al-Orouba exit to the Mamdouh Salem ramp on Friday and Saturday, May 1–2, with working hours from 12:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

The authority confirmed full coordination with the Cairo Traffic Department to ensure smooth traffic flow during the works.
