Dr. Mustafa Al-Sagheer, General Director of Karnak Antiquities, confirmed that the Sphinx sculptures with goat like heads will be transported from Karnak Temple to Cairo to decorate Tahrir Square.

The sculptures transported from the ancient San Hajar area in Sharkia Governorate, are not among the statues of the Avenue of the Sphinxes that connect between the Luxor and Karnak temples.

The ministry of antiques is now working on researching these sculptures, in addition to implementing all the required reconstruction work to protect them.

These are efforts are part of a wide range plan in order to reconstruct these monuments under the eye of the Antiques committee.

It’s worthy to note that the Ministry of Tourism and Antiques is now done with 90% of the reconstruction work and are on their way to revitalize the Avenue of the Sphinxes and it will be open to the public sometime in 2020.
