Cristiano Ronaldo continued to rewrite the record books after inspiring Portugal to a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Croatia in the Round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Portuguese captain converted a penalty in the 68th minute to level the score before Gonçalo Ramos struck a stoppage-time winner, sending Portugal into the Round of 16.

Ronaldo's goal was particularly historic, as it ended one of the few remaining gaps in his remarkable career by scoring his first-ever goal in the knockout stages of a FIFA World Cup.

At 41 years and 147 days old, Ronaldo also became the oldest player in World Cup history to score in a knockout-stage match, surpassing the previous record.

The goal marked another milestone in an extraordinary career, with Ronaldo becoming the first player to score in the knockout rounds of the World Cup after the age of 40, while extending his long list of records on football's biggest stage.

The victory keeps Portugal's hopes of winning a second major international title alive, with Ronaldo once again proving decisive when his country needed him most.
