Spain secured their place in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a convincing 3-0 victory over Austria in their Round of 32 clash, marking La Roja's first World Cup knockout-stage win since lifting the trophy in 2010.

Mikel Oyarzabal opened the scoring in the 36th minute, finishing off a well-worked team move to hand Spain a deserved first-half lead.

Spain thought they had doubled their advantage earlier in the match through Marc Cucurella, but the goal was ruled out after Pau Cubarsí was adjudged to have fouled Austrian goalkeeper Alexander Schlager during the build-up.

Pedro Porro extended Spain's lead in the 66th minute, scoring his first international goal with a composed finish.

Oyarzabal completed the rout in the 89th minute, netting his second goal of the match to seal a dominant performance and send Spain comfortably into the Round of 16.

Despite Oyarzabal's brace, teenage sensation Lamine Yamal was named Player of the Match for his outstanding display, playing a key role in Spain's attacking dominance throughout the contest.

Barcelona star Lamine Yamal was named Player of the Match after another outstanding display. Although he did not score, the 18-year-old was instrumental in Spain's attacking play, creating chances and consistently troubling Austria's defense throughout the contest.
