The 2026 FIFA World Cup has continued to rewrite the history books after becoming the best-attended edition in tournament history through the semi-final stage, highlighting the tremendous fan support for the competition hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
A total of 6,527,410 spectators have attended matches since the start of the tournament, surpassing the combined attendance figures recorded at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, which totaled 6,436,020 fans.
The milestone was reached following the conclusion of the quarter-finals, which saw Argentina, England, France and Spain secure their places in the semi-finals.
The 2026 tournament has also broken several other records, including the highest number of goals scored in a single World Cup edition and the most own goals in tournament history.
In addition, cumulative attendance across all FIFA World Cup tournaments has surpassed 50 million spectators for the first time.
The competition also recorded the highest single-day attendance in World Cup history, with more than 281,000 fans attending matches during one day of the group stage, while ticket demand and official FIFA Fan Festival attendance have reached record levels.
On the individual front, Lionel Messi has continued to extend his remarkable World Cup legacy by strengthening his records as the tournament's all-time leading scorer, the player with the most World Cup appearances, the all-time assists leader, and the player with the most goal contributions in World Cup history.
