The United Nations-affiliated International Organization for Migration (IOM) has stated that up to 20,000 people are displaced daily from Sudan, despite a year passing since the events began there, noting that nearly 53% of these displaced individuals are children under the age of 18.

In its report released today, Monday, in Geneva, the organization added that Sudan is on its way to becoming one of the largest humanitarian crises in the world for decades, as the conflict there creates pressures throughout the region, especially in recipient countries such as Chad, South Sudan, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the Central African Republic, which have collectively received nearly two million refugees.

The organization urged the international community to assist in bringing humanitarian aid to Sudan, warning of the worsening humanitarian situation due to the severe funding shortfall of the $2.7 billion Humanitarian Response Plan, of which only 5% has been funded so far.

The war in Sudan erupted on April 15, 2023, between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces militia, leading to the destruction of the country's infrastructure and raising warnings of the risk of famine and displacement of millions within and outside the country.
