1st Independent Belarus President Passes away Aged 87

The first President of independent Belarus Stanislav Shushkevich passed away at the age of 87 years old after suffering from COVID-19 complications.

Shushkevich was the leader of Belarus Supreme Soviet, and he signed with the Russian Leader Boris Yeltsin, and the Ukrainian Leader Leonid Kravchuk in 1991 which declared the dissolving of the Soviet Union, and replacing it with the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Shikhkevich's wife said regarding the late former President's funeral: "We hope that a state funeral will be organised, but no one has contacted us yet."
