Canada reported the first death of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday in Quebec, the Public Health Agency of Canada announced.

In a statement, the agency said that Quebec reported one death of rare “Thrombosis with thrombocytopenia with unusual blood clots" after receiving the vaccine. Quebec's health official revealed that the dead is a 54-year old woman.

On the other hand, the agency insisted that the advantages of the vaccine are overcoming its risks after reporting the news of the first AstraZeneca-related death.

"Health Canada has communicated that the benefits of the vaccine in protecting against COVID-19 continue to outweigh the potential risks," the statement added.

Canada's health official asserted that further investigations about the victim and those details will be attached in monitoring the rare blood clots of AstraZeneca.
