South Korean authorities reported on Saturday that one worker was killed in a fire that broke out at a factory in North Chungcheong Province, while search efforts continue for another missing worker.

According to Korea Broadcasting System (KBS), firefighters have fully extinguished the blaze, which erupted on Friday at a household goods factory in the Eumseong area.

The fire burned for approximately 21 hours, with containment efforts hampered by large quantities of flammable materials inside the facility.

Authorities had launched a search operation for two workers, a 60-year-old Kazakh national and a 23-year-old Nepali national, who were reported missing after 81 employees were evacuated from the factory.

Police and fire officials recovered one body early Saturday, believed to be that of one of the missing workers.

Efforts are still underway to locate the second missing individual.

Officials confirmed that search operations will continue and that an investigation has been opened to determine the cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage caused by the incident.
