On Monday, the Sudanese army announced that it has regained control of the Khurshid region, the last border point with Ethiopia, for the first time in 20 years, according to Al-Arabiya news website.

The army advanced towards “Khurshid” and “Qalaa Luban” after it had gained control of the Jabal Abutiour area in the Al-Qadarif province, according to the "Sudan Tribune" website.

"Khurshid" and "Qalaa Luban" are among the most important strategic sites in the border between Sudan and Ethiopia, and they are located within Sudanese territory at a depth of seven kilometers from Jabal Abutiour area.

It is worth mentioning that, last Saturday, Sudan decided to send more troops to its border areas adjacent to Ethiopia, according to state media reports.

They added that the Sudanese military reinforcements come days after the Sudanese army said its troops were ambushed there by Ethiopian forces.

Soldiers were deployed in the eastern Al-Fashaqa border region, the site of sporadic clashes, where Ethiopian farmers cultivate fertile land on territory claimed by Sudan.

Sudan’s army said troops were attacked on Tuesday evening in an “ambush by Ethiopian forces and militias inside Sudanese territories”.

Sudanese media said four soldiers were killed and 27 wounded, although the army did not confirm the reports.

General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, who heads the armed forces and the Sovereign Council, Sudan’s highest executive body, visited the area this week.
