Croatia head coach Zlatko Dalic has officially announced his resignation, bringing an end to one of the most successful managerial spells in the country's football history following the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Croatian Football Federation confirmed that Dalic informed federation president Marijan Kustic of his decision during a meeting at the federation's headquarters.

Dalic leaves his position as the longest-serving and most successful coach in Croatia's history.

During his nearly nine-year tenure, he guided the national team to the 2018 FIFA World Cup final, a third-place finish at the 2022 World Cup, and runners-up honors in the 2023 UEFA Nations League. He also led Croatia to qualification for UEFA Euro 2020, Euro 2024 and the 2026 World Cup.

In a statement released by the Croatian Football Federation, Dalic described the decision as the most difficult of his career, saying that coaching his country had been the greatest honor of his life.

He expressed pride in everything the team had achieved both on and off the pitch, highlighting not only the results but also the unity shared by the players and supporters throughout his tenure.

Dalic also thanked his coaching staff, medical and administrative teams, federation officials, fans, media and his family, stressing that Croatia's success had been built on teamwork and continuous support.

The departing coach paid tribute to the players, led by captain Luka Modric and extending to the younger generation, praising their commitment to putting Croatia above individual interests.

He said he was confident the national team had a bright future and wished his successor every success.

Although he admitted that the support he received had made him reconsider his decision, Dalic said he believed the time had come to close this chapter of his career.
