Zayed: Germany Gifts Egypt with 2.3 M. AstraZeneca Vaccine Doses

Germany gifted Egypt with 2.3 million AstraZeneca Coronavirus vaccine doses, Minister of Health Dr Hala Zayed announced in a press conference held on Thursday.

She added that all newly received vaccine doses will be available at 850 vaccination spots across Egypt to speed the rollout of the vaccination amid the climax of the fourth wave of the pandemic.

Zayed predicted that the climax of this wave could hit in three or four weeks, however, it is weaker than the previous waves as it saw the lowest number of deaths.

During her speech, the minister revealed that there are some negotiations about domestication of Pfizer vaccine manufacturing.

On his side, the German Ambassador to Egypt Frank Hartmann praised the cooperation and the coordination between Egypt, and Germany administrations regarding competing against the COVID-19, and achieving an equal distribution of vaccines.

He also asserted the importance of the global cooperation between all worldwide parties to provide a fair vaccine doses sharing.

It is worthy to mention that Egypt received the first shipment of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. The highly anticipated shipment consisted of 261,000 doses.

The doses will be preserved inside 61 special refrigerators at all vaccination spots that dedicated to Egyptians who will travel abroad.

In the same context, Egypt will also receive a new shipment of the Moderna vaccine in the upcoming few days. It is expected that the country will receive 5.2 million doses of ‘Pfizer’ and ‘Moderna’ COVID-19.
