Zamalek forward Achraf Bencharki will travel to Cameroon to join the Morocco national team in the AFCON and replace the injured Badr Benoun.

In his initial squad for AFCON, Morocco manager Vahid Halilhodžić had named 25 players, but didn’t include Al Ahly’s Badr Benoun and Zamalek’s Achraf Bencharki.

The Atlas Lions were allowed three more players, as per CAF’s rules and regulations, and the Bosnian decided to fill these spots with Al Ahly centre back Badr Benoun along with Al-Ain’s Soufiane Rahimi and AS FAR right back Mohamed Chibi.

Despite the depth of their injuries, Morocco still found themselves shorthanded going into their opener against Ghana as four of their players were ruled-out. These players are Aymen Barkok and Ayoub El-Kaabi, who both contracted Covid-19, as well as the injured duo Youssef En-Nesyri and Badr Benoun.
