On Thursday, Zamalek climbed the top post of the Egyptian League with a 3-1 win over Ismaily at Cairo stadium. Al Ahly are also on the top of the table with both sides now at 24 points from 10 games, but with goal-difference for Zamalek.
International fullback Ahmed Fatouh scored in his own net to give Ismaily an early lead in the 3rd minute.
However, a composed Zamalek responded quickly - thanks to Youssef Ossama who levelled the score five minutes later.
In the 32nd minute, Ahmed ‘Zizo’ Sayed converted a penalty to add the second before Amr El-Sisi made it 3-1 just before the break.
The game marked the first appearance of Ahmed ‘Mido’ Hossam as Ismaily’s coach after his appointment on Tuesday.
After the loss, the Dervishes lie on the bottom of the table with only six points from 10 games.
Easy win despite early scare
The White Knights started the game with a high dose of enthusiasm as they aimed to capitalise on Ahly's loss of two points after a 1-1 draw with on Wednesday.
They were stunned with only three minutes from the game’s start with fullback Ahmed Fatouh failed to clear Saleh Gomaa’s cross from a set piece to score on his own net.
But very quickly, an unmarked winger Youssef Ossama netted the equaliser in the 8th minute after meeting Ahmed ‘Zizo’ Sayed's cross with a well-placed volley to score his fourth goal with Zamalek this season so far.
In the 30th minute Ismaily defender Hamdi Nagguez touched the ball with his hand inside the area and the referee awarded a penalty for the hosts
Zizo turned from provider to scorer as he converted the penalty after sending the keeper in the wrong way.
Summer signing Amr El-Sisi, who joined the club from Talaa El-Guiesh, added the third, giving his side a comfortable advantage before heading to the dressing room.
