Zamalek were held to a goalless draw against Ittihad of Alexandria, extending their winless run to three matches in the Egyptian Premier League and falling further behind in the title race.

The White Knights struggled for openings throughout and created their only clear-cut chance with 19 minutes remaining when a header from towering defender Hossam Abdel-Maguid went just wide.

Ittihad were content to sit back and nullify Zamalek's feeble attempts, with the stalemate ending their three-match losing streak.

Zamalek have now drawn twice and lost once in their past three games, giving Ahly the chance to open up a comfortable lead on top.

The White Knights lie third in the table, one behind second-placed Future FC and four adrift of leaders Ahly, who can extend their lead to seven points if they beat Masry on Thursday.

Ittihad moved up to fifth with 19 points from 13 matches.
