Mohamed Kishk, Director at the Large Taxpayers Center (LTC) of the Egyptian Tax Authority said that the tax on YouTubers and bloggers is not new, but rather it is an activation of existing laws, noting that it aims to apply tax justice to everyone who works in the commercial sector, whether traditionally or through modern electronic methods.

Kishk added, in a call-in with channel Ten: “It is not reasonable for a small businessman to bear the cost of water, rent, taxes, labor, etc., while those who practice e-commerce or sell online, whether a product or service, do not pay the taxes due, so everyone must quickly register their taxes and start paying state dues.”

He appealed to all YouTubers and bloggers to quickly register for income and value-added taxes (VAT) to avoid “tax evasion” as a crime against honor, the punishment of which ranges from 3 to 5 years.

He pointed out that the volume of e-commerce in Egypt may reach 40% of the Egyptian economy, and that engaging that percentage to the economy may obviate the debts borne.
