Granit Xhaka will lead Switzerland national football team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after head coach Murat Yakin officially announced his 26-man squad for the tournament.
The World Cup will be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico between June 11 and July 19.
Switzerland begin their World Cup campaign against Qatar national football team on June 13 in San Francisco as part of Group B, which also includes Canada national football team and Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team.
The goalkeeping department includes Gregor Kobel, Marvin Keller and Yvon Mvogo.
In defense, Yakin selected experienced names such as Ricardo Rodríguez, Silvan Widmer, Manuel Akanji and Nico Elvedi.
The midfield is led by captain Granit Xhaka alongside Remo Freuler, Denis Zakaria and Ardon Jashari.
In attack, Switzerland will rely on players including Noah Okafor, Breel Embolo, Dan Ndoye and Zeki Amdouni.
Murat Yakin admitted that the squad contained few surprises, though he highlighted the inclusion of Zeki Amdouni despite the striker still recovering from a serious ACL injury.
The Switzerland coach stressed that the team enters the tournament with a strong mix of experience and ambition, pointing to the leadership of Xhaka, Akanji, Embolo and Zakaria as key factors ahead of the competition.
Switzerland are set to participate in their seventh consecutive World Cup since the 2006 edition in Germany and have reached the Round of 16 in each of the last three tournaments.
