Both teams clashed three times before with the victory was in favor of Zamalek.

The first encounter between both teams was in the 2003 CAF Super Cup at Cairo Stadium, where Zamalek secured a 3-1 win.

The second match was in 2016 when Zamalek defeated the Moroccan team in the first leg of the Champions League 4-1, before being defeated by Wydad in the second leg 5-2, but the Whites managed to reach the final.
