Wydad Athletic Club have officially announced the appointment of Patrice Carteron as the club’s new head coach, following their elimination from the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.

In an official statement, the Moroccan club confirmed the deal, saying it had reached an agreement with the French manager to lead the first team in the upcoming period.

The statement added that the club welcomes Carteron and wishes him success in his new role on the technical bench.

Carteron, who previously managed Egyptian giants Al Ahly SC and Zamalek SC, brings significant experience in African football to Wydad as the club looks to rebuild and compete for titles.

Wydad’s coaching change comes shortly after their exit from the Confederation Cup, where they were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Olympic Safi.

The second-leg match ended in a 2-2 draw, but Olympic Safi advanced to the semi-finals on the away goals rule after the aggregate result.

The Casablanca-based side will now be aiming to bounce back under Carteron’s leadership as they prepare for the remainder of the season and future continental campaigns.
