Chinese authorities have instructed top entrepreneurs and AI researchers to avoid visiting the United States, reflecting Beijing’s view of technology as an economic and national security priority, similar to its rival America, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.

WSJ added that Chinese authorities fear that Chinese AI experts traveling abroad could reveal confidential information about the country’s technological advancements, compromising national security.

In addition, Chinese authorities warn that executives could be detained and used as bargaining chips in negotiations between the United States and China, as happened with a Huawei executive who was detained in Canada at Washington’s request during the first administration of US President Donald Trump.
