World Class Athletes Who Had Pleasure of Visiting Egypt

As we all know Egypt is the hub of civilizations, therefore several world-class figures are usually delighted to have a chance to visit and take part in the wonders of the nation.

Throughout the years, several renowned athletes who left their mark in their respective sport had the chance to visit Egypt, whether in the form of a work trip or just plane tourism. This is why we have decided to list down several of the most well-known athletes who visited Egypt over the years.

Lionel Messi:

Messi

Lionel Messi came to Egypt in 2017 in order to support the country's fight against the dangerous Hepatitis C disease. Messi praised Egypt for “leading the world in the fight against hepatitis C” as part of Tour N’ Cure, a medical tourism campaign launched by the Egyptian government in 2017.

“Having cured more than one million patients, Egypt is leading the world in the fight against hepatitis C. Finally there is an effective and affordable cure, what are you waiting for to join us to eradicate the disease?” the video stated.

Ronaldinho:

Ronaldinho visited Egypt several times from 1997 to 2018 as his football career actually started from the 97 5 -5 a side is football but the team only contains 5 players- a side World Cup which Brazil remarkably won. Since then the Brazilian football legend visited Egypt occasionally, recently being part of an analysing team for a Pyramids FC match.

Ryan Giggs:

In 2017, as part of its 11th edition, the UEFA Champions League Trophy Tour arrived in Cairo, Egypt, with Manchester United and Wales legend Ryan Giggs presenting the trophy to loving fans.

Giggs, who presented the iconic trophy to the Egyptian fans, toured Cairo as part of the event, spending time in the Cairo Museum of Antiquities and travelling down the Nile with fans.

Benzema:

Benzema visited Egypt in 2018 and expressed his admiration of Hurghada and Marsa Alam by sharing every moment of his vacation on his social media accounts, showing the beaches, resorts, landmarks and tourism sites in Hurghada and Marsa Alam; he also stressed that he will return soon with his family.

Floyd Mayweather:

Fresh out of defeating Manny Pacquiao in a multi-million dollar fight and then outlasting Andre Berto in his retirement match, Floyd Mayweather toured the world. As part of his retirement campaign, the billionaire athlete toured Egypt and visited the Pyramids. In addition, he took part in some fascinating bedwin nights.

Mike Tyson:

Mike Tyson is the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history and is considered to be one of the greatest boxing to ever brace the squared circle. Unlike many of these athletes on the list, Tyson actually visited Egypt in order to shoot the movie "7amlet Pharoan" alongside Amr Saad and Ruby. The youngest heavyweight champion played the role of a mob boss in the movie produced by El-Sobky.

Muhammed Ali:

You can't mention great athletes without getting to mention the wonderous Muhammed Ali. Often dubbed as the people's champ, Ali dominated boxing through the 60's and 70's in the golden era of boxing.

The People's Champ wasn't just a great athlete, he was also a great politician. Ali was a well know supporter of late Egyptian president Gamal Abdel Nasser as both met up several times in order to discuss political aspects.

WWE Superstars:

The WWE held a show in Egypt in 2012 with many of their superstars getting the chance to perform in front of a live Egyptian audience. The superstars toured the Pyramids during their time off and even were hosted by several of Egypt's most prominent media personnel including Amr Adeeb.

Samuel Eto'o:

Perhaps the greatest African Footballer to ever live, Samuel Eto'o visited Egypt during the Total 2019 African Cup of Nations and held several activities during his stay in the country.

The Cameroonian legend took part in analytical panels, media discussions and sponsorships in order to promote the tournament.
