The Australian Islamic Center`s ladies felt they have a duty to help their community. Such a group of women from Newport, Victoria, a suburb of Melbourne, helped to fill five trucks full of donated supplies and raised $1,500 in only 48 hours.

They traveled with other volunteers for more than four hours to deliver the supplies to victims, according to Rashid Elhouli, who oversees the online Australian Islamic Centre`s public relations.

They cooked breakfast for the firefighters when they arrived in Johnsonville.

Rodney Baylis, a Johnsvonville firefighter told the group in a video posted on Facebook: "I extend the thanks from the fire-affected areas."

The firefighter added: "I just been on the phone to the captain down there and he nearly broke into tears when I told him what we are bringing in for them today."

Firefighters have been fighting the bushfires during the last several months. In New South Wales, many homes have been destroyed during this fire season, according to the state's Rural Fire Service.

They used social media platforms to tell people that the center was collecting supplies for the people who were affected by the fires. They prepared female hygiene products, water bottles, milk, baby wipes, and fresh fruit.

After last Friday's prayer, the center hosted a sausage sizzle, selling plates of food to raise money for the bushfire victims.
