Wolverhampton Wanderers have been officially relegated from the Premier League to the EFL Championship, becoming the first team to drop out of the top flight in the 2025–2026 season after a prolonged run of poor results.

The club’s fate was mathematically sealed with five matches still remaining, marking an early and definitive end to their campaign.

The relegation reflects a difficult season in which the team struggled to compete consistently at the highest level.

Confirmation came following a goalless draw between West Ham United and Crystal Palace in Round 33.

That result lifted West Ham to 33 points in 17th place, the first safe position, creating a 16-point gap over bottom-placed Wolverhampton, who sit on 17 points.

With only five fixtures left, Wolverhampton could collect a maximum of 15 points, making it mathematically impossible to close the gap even if results elsewhere went in their favor.

As a result, their relegation was confirmed ahead of schedule.

The drop comes after a season marked by attacking inefficiency and defensive frailties that cost the team valuable points.

Once a difficult venue for visiting sides, Molineux Stadium became an easier ground for opponents, reflecting the club’s overall decline.

Supporters are now awaiting decisions from the club’s management regarding the coaching staff and playing squad, as Wolverhampton prepare for life in the Championship and aim to rebuild quickly in pursuit of a return to the Premier League.
