The winery is located in Al Hayz, one of the cities of the Bahariya Oasis, which was found in 1988 by the Supreme Council of Antiquities mission headed by Dr. Zahi Hawass.

Dr. "Fatma Abd Al-Rasoul," monument inspector of the Bahria Oasis, said that the history of the factory dates back to the fourth century AD, and it remained in use until the middle of the fourth century AD.

The wine factory was built of milk bricks. The factory, or the so-called winepress, consists of five large pans used for collecting, washing and squeezing wine, then fermentation at a high temperature.

Until now the remains of dried grape seeds are in place, and there are also many remnants of scattered clay pots with which wine was placed.

Wine was one of the most important beverages and of the ancient Egyptians, which is fermented juice from fresh grapes.

The drink was also a necessity in celebrations and festivals, in addition to the ancient Egyptian belief in the Holy Power, which this sacred beverage gave, hence the importance of cultivating vineyards (grapes), so that some areas were famous for cultivating it only and among the most important of these areas are Bahria Oasis.

The Bahariya Oasis were known through their wine, which consists of two types of grapes, which is still growing in the navy until now, which is white and red grapes with large leaves that have been famous since ancient times.

Also, King Ramesses the Third mentioned in the Harris Papyrus, which is in the British Museum, he says I have worked for you, ie, for Amun, vineyards in the southern oasis as well as the northern, and northern here, which means Bahariya Oasis.

And still cultivation of grapes is one of the agricultural crops that marine oases are famous for, along with palm and olive cultivation.
