China has dispatched over a thousand firefighters to the Sichuan province to extinguish wildfires spreading across the mountains.
Additionally, seven helicopters were sent since the day before yesterday to quell forest fires raging in the southwest of the province, as reported by the Chinese newspaper "South China Morning Post" today, Sunday.
The Ministry of Emergency Management stated that the fires started around 5 p.m. the day before yesterday near the village of Baizi in the Yajiang County of Sichuan province.
Strong winds and poor visibility have hampered firefighting efforts.
There have been no reports of casualties so far, but the fires have led to the closure of a section of a highway and disrupted communication with a hydroelectric power station.
